TRAINING CLASSES

This Class is run by the Boone County Emergency Managment Office, and not the Boone County CERT Council. 

Basic Training

Currently two training programs are planned each year, one beginning in the second week of March, the other beginning in the second week of September.

Classes are 8 weeks long, and end with a disaster simulation.

      

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and volunteer program offers members of the public an opportunity to learn basic hands-on disaster response techniques.

The program is a 24-hour class taught over several sessions, that covers:

  • Disaster preparedness
  • Fire safety
  • Disaster medical operations
  • Light search and rescue
  • Team organization
  • Disaster psychology
  • Team organization
  • Terrorism response

Upon completion of the full 24-hour class, participants have the option to become an active  Citizen Corps CERT volunteer and assist professional emergency services following a disaster.

 

Volunteer Requirements

  • All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

  • All volunteers must complete the 24-hour CERT training.  (only one class may be missed)

  • All volunteer must complete necessary documentation.

  • All volunteers must submit to a background check due to the sensitive nature of  potential assignments

  • Enrolling in a CERT course does not obligate you to become a CERT volunteer.
